Special Event Catering Ideas

Blog

No matter what type of special event you're planning, from a large celebration to a small, intimate affair, hiring a professional catering company can instantly elevate it to the next level. Letting the pros do the cooking and serving will also reduce your event-planning stress and eliminate your time in the kitchen, allowing you to handle more important details.

You can have any type of special occasion catered, from bridal and baby showers to wedding receptions, anniversary and graduation celebrations, and holiday get-togethers. Big birthday parties can also be catered with the celebrant's favorite foods and cake.

If you're on a limited event-planning budget, consider serving just finger foods or desserts and coffee to reduce catering costs. For large events that require three-course meals, you can make the appetizers yourself and have a professional catering company prepare the entrees, or vice versa, as a wallet-friendly option.

Be sure to keep any of your guests' dietary concern in mind when creating the menu, providing vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free choices as needed. Here are some catering ideas according to the special event type.

Bridal and Baby Showers

To keep with the fun, lighthearted feel of a baby or bridal shower, plan the catering menu, including any snacks and sweets, according to the event theme. For instance, provide a candy buffet complete with pacifier- and baby bottle-shaped confections in glass apothecary jars for a baby shower. Guests can fill their own treat bags and enjoy them at the celebration or take them home as favors.

For a bridal shower, keep things elegant with selections, such as gourmet sandwiches, fruit and vegetable platters, or a cheese and cracker tray, that are easy for guests to eat as they mix, mingle, and play games. As a whimsical touch, provide desserts, such as brownies or cookies, that have been monogrammed with the bride-to-be's new initials using icing.

Kids' Birthday Parties

When planning a child's birthday party featuring big guest list, have the caterer set up buffet tables with tasty treats that kids can prepare themselves. Some ideas include a build-your-own burger or taco bars and cookie-decorating stations.

Provide all of the ingredients, such as chopped vegetables, a variety of proteins, and buns or hard and soft taco shells, that the young guests need to create their culinary masterpieces. For the cookie stations, set out a few different frosting options and toppings such as sprinkles and small candies.

For a healthier dessert, ask the caterer to bring different types of cut-up fruit and have the children make their own fresh salads. For more information, contact a company like Urban's.

Protecting Your Cookie Sheets

When I got married, one of my mom’s friends gave me a set of 3 cookie sheets at my wedding shower. Because I liked to bake peanut butter cookies, I was excited to receive this thoughtful gift. After the wedding, I started using these handy cookie sheets several nights each week. In addition to baking cookies on them, I used them to cook other types of foods as well. I baked French fries on them. I also roasted vegetables on them. Unfortunately, by using them for multiple purposes, they quickly lost their non-stick properties. Whenever I baked cookies on them, the cookies would stick to the sheets. So, I purchased a new set of cookies sheets. Now, I only bake cookies on cookie sheets. On this blog, you will discover ways to protect your valuable cookie sheets.
